Thanks to a bunch of heartwarming reviews like this one, I’m happy to say that I won The Knot ”Best of Weddings” award again this year.
Huge thanks to all my wonderful clients!
Landscape Photography + Portrait Photography = Portraitscape Photography.
I absolutely love getting out in nature with my wedding and engagement clients. Traveling, exploring, hiking, and climbing in beautiful places…does it get any better than that? Fusing my love for Landscape photography with my people work creates the best of both worlds, and this image is a recent favorite in that regard.
During this time of soaking up all this awesome wisdom about optimal living, I challenged myself to a 100 day program where I would only eat the best food, embark on a consistent workout routine, and listen to one PhilosophersNote every day for 100 days. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. I spent those 100 days living optimally and thinking clear and often about my purpose, and following my heart in life. I explored the question of what would you want do in life anyways even if you didn’t get paid for it? You couldn’t pay me to stop playing with photography, so the idea of following it fully, circled around & around in my head and heart. By the end of those 100 days I had officially launched my photography business and taken the plunge into the unknown. I had no idea what I was doing besides the fact that I absolutely loved photography and knew I had an unbreakable desire to improve, learn, and grow. With this passion & dedication I was fully confident I could make it work, however scary it was at first. People around you think you are nuts too but I had to just ignore everyone else’s opinions and keep focused on what I knew I needed to do.
I always ask my clients about the things they enjoy doing together, and about the places of special significance to them, or to their story, so we can incorporate those ideas into their engagement sessions. It always makes the imagery that much more powerful…especially years on down the road. Marlo & Matt rattled off a bunch of fun ideas right away and we got the ball rolling quickly. I love knowing what we are going to do, and also walking into it without a single planned shot. I love shooting on the fly, and making it all up as we go along. Playing in the unique light & space of any given moment is one of my favorite things to do. Sometimes when you do too much planning, it presents the possibility of missing those fleeting moments that just create themselves. This session is one of my all-time favorites in that regard. We put ourselves in cool situations and created in the moment, and all the while laughing and joking together along the way.
Marlo & Matt live and play in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis. They love going to movies at Riverview Theater, playing tennis together, and hanging out at Parkway Pizza…so we of course did all three. We had a blast running around together, and I enjoyed watching Marlo beat Matt in both Tennis and Foosball. Matt was a very good loser I have to say. ;-D
These two are my kind of clients, such a great couple, and cool individuals. Can’t wait for their big day!
This was such a fantastic wedding to be a part of, and so much fun. Erica & Marcell are an awesome couple, and their wedding party and families followed suit. We had so many belly laughs throughout the day as we shot.
Being a huge music lover myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the music theme they chose for their big day. Aria is one cool venue to say the least, and being a predominantly outdoor photographer I was able to play with a whole different type of lighting. That was a lot of fun. I’ll let the images tell the story from here, and like I always say, I love my job…and weddings like these just take it to the next level. What a perfect day it was!
Big shout outs to three of my favorite vendors who were on board for the big day as well:
Kari & company at The Bliss Life (Wedding Planning & Design)
Chowgirls Killer Catering (Local, Seasonal, Organic, and Delicious Catering)
La Petite Fleur (Awesome Flower Design)
